In Kijjabwemi, Masaka City, 34-year-old Babirye Scovia is rewriting her family’s story—one piece of plastic at a time. A mother of four, she joined Eco Brixs in January 2025 to tackle daily and financial hardships that once made even basic meals a luxury.

🌱 A Life Transformed

Through her earnings from plastic collection, she now provides nutritious meals and ensures a life of dignity and independence for her family.

“My children used to admire good food,” Babirye shares quietly, “but I couldn’t afford it.”

👩‍👧‍👦 Supporting Her Children

Babirye’s children are now thriving as a result of her work with Eco Brixs. Her eldest daughter, 18, is in Senior Four. Her second-born, who began school late due to financial constraints, is now excelling in Primary Six. Her younger children, including an infant under two, are equally supported, with healthcare and nutrition covered.

💡 Escaping Financial Strain

Before Eco Brixs, Babirye relied on high-interest loans for rent and healthcare. However, her regular income from plastic collection now means she can be financially independent and she no longer needs to borrowing money.

“I can pay my rent on time, afford healthcare, and buy what my family needs, without going into debt,” she affirms.

⭐️ Why It Matters

Babirye’s journey shows how sustainable, accessible jobs can reshape people's futures. Grassroots initiatives like Eco Brixs provide environmental solutions while empowering women, fuelling education, and restoring hope.

By paying for every kilogram of plastic collected, Eco Brixs helps change-makers like Babirye build cleaner, stronger communities.
