We hope you've had a great start to the year!

We want to begin by saying a huge thank you to everyone who supported Eco Brixs in 2025. Your generosity helped us recycle more plastic waste and create more jobs for marginalised people in Uganda than ever before. We really appreciate it.

Since the new year restart, our gates have reopened. We've been weighing and buying plastic from the community, and In just six weeks, we’ve already received over 260,000 kg of plastic for recycling.

This highlights the strong desire from local people to earn income through plastic collection — especially as families need to pay fees for the new school term at this time of year.

Looking ahead, 2026 for Eco Brixs is all about building on last year’s impact — increasing both the environmental impact (plastic removed and recycled) and the social impact (jobs and income for communities).

Our Impact in 2025 — And What’s Next

Eco Brixs staff in green uniforms and helmets operate machinery in the Eco Brixs recycling plant. Large bags and a pile of waste are visible. EcoBrix label on machine.

In 2025, Eco Brixs:

  • Recycled 2,056 tonnes of plastic waste

  • Paid $339,525 to the community for collected plastic

  • Increased the number of green jobs we create to 5,550

  • Created the majority of jobs for young people, women, refugees, and people with disabilities

In 2026, we aim to:

  • Recycle over 2,500 tonnes in the calendar year

  • Increase the number of green jobs we provide to 6,500

  • Increase collection in our existing areas: Masaka, Kalangala, Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Fort Portal and Mbarara

  • Complete our expansion plans across Southern Uganda to districts such as Kabale and Kasesse, and a second refugee settlement

  • Begin expansion to Northern Uganda, fully replicating the Eco Brixs model, including a new recycling plant in Lira

Thank you for being part of our journey in 2025 — we can’t wait to share the impact we create this year!

Thank You for Supporting Our BBC Radio 4 Appeal

All the donations from our December Radio 4 Appeal are now in, and we’re thrilled to share the results. Thanks to your generosity, we raised £46,734 (including match funding and gift aid), which will help expand Eco Brixs’ work across Southern Uganda — cleaning up more plastic pollution and creating sustainable jobs for marginalised people.

A special thank you to Liz Earle MBE, who presented our appeal, and to our generous partners who provided match funding so your donations could have double the impact. And a big thank you to Megaret, who let us share her story of collecting plastic to support her daughter, Amina, through school.

We are so grateful to everyone who donated, shared the appeal, or helped spread the word. Your support is making a real, lasting difference in Uganda. Thank you!
