Join us in solving Uganda's plastic problem
We're currently searching for a new trustee to join our UK Board!
We’re looking for a new volunteer to join our UK Board of Trustees. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading Eco Brixs alongside your fellow trustees, as the organisation works to tackle Uganda’s plastic problem whilst creating income opportunities for the community.
As a trustee of a UK registered charity, you’ll make decisions with the other trustees in order to lead the organisation forward in fulfilling its mission, whilst also ensuring it fulfils its legal responsibilities.
Eco Brixs is a relatively new charity that began in 2017. Therefore, we’re currently looking for a new general member to join the Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer on the board. Mainly, we’d like the candidate to bring new experience and perspective to our work.
However, experience in the following would be especially beneficial:
Recycling industry and/or international development
Being a charity trustee (or working alongside trustees in a charity)
Scaling up a charity/start-up organisation
What we need from you:
Less than one hour a week ad-hoc contact time
Attend quarterly board meetings (via virtual means)
Willingness to work with your fellow trustees to make informed, collective decisions on strategic issues to further Eco Brixs’s goals
When you join, a willingness to take some time to familiarise yourself with Eco Brixs as an organisation and its governing documents
Ideas and a willingness to help support the team in further Eco Brixs's growth during your term
Who are Eco Brixs?
“To create green, environmentally friendly, sustainable solutions to lift people out of abject poverty in Uganda.”
Eco Brixs operates a closed-loop recycling system in Uganda, which serves the community in two ways: by offering a recycling service and creating income opportunities.
In short, it does this by paying people for each kilogram of plastic they bring to us. We then recycle the plastic waste into new items (our Eco-Products) and then sell them. This generates the revenue to fund the recycling network, hence, our closed-loop system.
On top of this, the organisation also specialises in disability employment and providing education programmes for the next generation of school pupils.
This is made possible by the collaboration of the UK Charity working in partnership with an Uganda NGO (by the same name).
